Connect Threads
Add a creator’s Threads account next to their Instagram, or import Threads accounts on their own. Threads accounts don’t use a creator slot.
Toolies publishes to Threads through Meta’s official Threads API, the same way it publishes to Instagram. The creator approves access on Threads’ own page and Toolies never sees their password. Owners and managers can connect Threads accounts; your email must be verified and your plan active.
How Threads fits in#
- Linked to a creator. Most creators use the same name on Instagram and Threads. Link their Threads account to their Instagram creator and it shows on the same row in Creators, with its own status.
- Included in every plan. A Threads account linked to an Instagram creator doesn’t use a creator slot. Only Instagram accounts count towards your plan’s limit.
- Its own posts. Every Threads post is a separate post with its own format, caption, status, link and statistics. Publishing to Instagram and Threads at once uses one post of the monthly quota per destination. See Schedule posts.
Add Threads to an Instagram creator#
Start from the creator
In Creators, open the actions menu on the Instagram creator’s row and choose Add Threads. The same dialog as for Instagram opens: choose On this device or On my phone, exactly as in Connect Instagram.
Sign in and approve
Sign in with the creator’s Threads account, the one created from their Instagram, and approve every permission requested. Toolies needs all of them to publish and to read statistics.
Done
The Threads account appears on a line under the creator’s name, with its own status, usually within a few seconds. From the actions menu you can then View on Threads, Reconnect Threads or Remove Threads.
Threads accounts on their own#
A Threads account can also be a creator by itself: one connected without picking an Instagram creator (for example from a link an AI assistant gives you) becomes its own Threads creator and uses a creator slot like any other creator. Threads accounts connected directly in the publishing provider are imported automatically: Toolies links each one to the Instagram creator with the same username when that creator has no Threads account yet, and otherwise adds it as its own Threads creator.
A connection attempt is valid for 20 minutes. If it expires, start again: nothing is connected until the creator approves.
What you can post on Threads#
| Post | What it needs |
|---|---|
| Text | No file, just the caption |
| Photo | Exactly one image |
| Video | Exactly one video, up to 5 minutes |
| Carousel | 2 to 20 items, photos and videos can be mixed |
- Captions are limited to 500 characters. Threads counts each emoji as several characters (its size in bytes), so the composer’s counter can climb faster than you expect.
- A caption can contain up to 5 different links.
- Toolies picks the format from the files you add. See Upload content.
Reconnecting and removing#
If Threads withdraws access, the Threads line shows Reconnect needed and its posts are blocked until you reconnect. Choose Reconnect Threads in the creator’s actions menu and authorize the same Threads account again.
Remove Threads disconnects the Threads account and keeps the Instagram creator connected. Removing the Instagram creator also removes its linked Threads account. Posts already published stay online.
